Sam Buck - Diving Development Officer / Head Coach
Sam is the Diving Development Officer and Head Coach at Cambridge. He joined the Cambridge Dive Team in June 2006 after finishing his degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University. He started out as an Assistant Diving Development Officer working alongside James Etherington (head coach at the time) and Amy Renton. He has worked in all aspects of the club including the Learn-to-Dive programme, Masters and adult diving, and more noticeably the club's Squad members.
Before joining the Cambridge Dive Team, Sam's background was in gymnastics. He competed at the Junior European Championships for Great Britain as well numerous other junior and senior internationals. He is a former British Champion and British University Champion but sadly had to retire from the sport after a second major stress fracture in his back.
Sam is a qualified level 2 Diving Coach, Club coach in gymnastics, and a Level 2 Trampoline coach. His degree covered modules including sports psychology, nutrition, structural kinesiology and biomechanics, the area where he wrote a dissertation on the mechanics of multiple somersaults and twists. He is keen to develop talent to the highest level within the sport and is forever aiming to further his knowledge in such a diverse subject matter.
