East Region Level 2 Diving Skills 2009

The next generations of Cambridge divers have proven they are on the way up. In Bedford at the Regional competition Cambridge Dive Team divers took home two gold medals, a silver, and multiple top ten finishes.

Leading the way for the Cambridge young ones was Dominic Sutton and Rosy Trewin-Marshall. Both received gold in a confident fashion. Sutton, who competed in the 11-12 year old boys group, took first place with a fine performance. Closely behind Sutton was team mate Matthew Goodfellow who took second place just six points behind. The Cambridge boys were in high spirits cheering each other on dive after dive and were very happy with their performances.

On the girl's side of diving, Rosy May Trewin-Marshall led the way in the 9-10 year old group with a first place finish. Rosy didn't miss a dive all day and as a result won the entire competition fairly easily. Of the top five divers three were from Cambridge. Pamela Chicken and Florence Simmons finished fourth and fifth respectively. Sarah Arthur, who was competing in the 14+ and national qualification category, took home a well deserved second place.

In the 12-13 year old girls category Jasmine Glen had an eighth place finish and Amelia Brasnett finished in twelfth place. "These girls have competed only a few times, so for them to finish in eighth and twelfth is really good. It was a tough group and the girls dived very well" said coach Sam Buck.

These fine performances ensured that five divers will be going to the National Skills Finals in April. Dominic Sutton, Matthew Goodfellow, Jasmine Glen, Amelia Brasnett and Pamela Chicken, along with coach Josh Karshen will travel to Leeds in hopes of gaining another Cambridge Dive Team National Champion.
