Club 1 Metre Springboard Age Group Diving Championships
Three club records fell as divers from the Cambridge Dive Team competed for honours in the club 1 Metre Springboard Age Group Championships. Sharnia Mockford continued with her successful season by winning the girls under 12 years title with a record score of 101.35, with all four dives scoring 6s. However, fast improving Victoria Way was heading the competition after three dives but was just pipped in the final round and had to settle for the silver medal. Her score of 96.85 also bettered the old record. The boys under 12 years saw a first ever win for 9 year old Phillip Shipsey. He dived consistently to score a most creditable 78.90 points to win by a narrow margin from Nathaniel Doza with 77.26 and Liam Kirwain with 74.90.
The 2nd record went in the girls 12/13 year group where Sophie Clark was triumphant with 132.60. High scores on difficult dives just outscored the ever improving Yasmin Watson whose score of 129.70 also broke the old record. Emily Hall took the bronze medal with 114.40.
Ellie Carter-Silk returning to form after a long injury-induced lay off took the girls 14/15 years with 123.00 just bettering the old record by 1 point. Kirstie Matthews and newcomer, Charlotte Gregory battled it out for the girls 16-18 years. Kirstie eventually took the title with 148.60 to Charlotte's 142.65. Roger Thornton won the gold medal in the boys 16-18 year group. In the boys 14/15 years Matthew Jarosiewicz produced the best diving of the day and looked as he might be on target to beat the 6 year-old record held by one of the club's most successful divers, Samir Rerizani. Despite scoring highly on complex high tariff dives Matthew ended with 168.20 for the title but 6 points adrift of the record.
Samir Rerizani was on hand to present the medals and trophies.
