Amsterdam Diving Cup
City of Cambridge diver Sophie Clark has achieved her first European success with victory in the 2005 Amsterdam Diving Cup. Sophie, second in the 2004 Cambridge Evening News Junior Sportswoman of the Year, led from start to finish to win the senior 3-metre competition with an exceptional total of 224.25 points from five dives.
Earlier, Sophie had taken silver in her 3-metre age group competition, beaten only by Kristina Schindler, Germany's Junior European Champion. Sophie led after the required dives and ultimately amassed a personal best total of 304.60 points from seven dives, just short of the total she will require to secure her place on the Great Britain Diving Junior Olympic Programme.
Sophie completed her medal haul with a bronze in the 1-metre age group competition, scoring 248.35 from eight dives; Schindler once more taking gold. Fifth place finishes for Sophie in the platform age group and senior 1-metre competitions completed an impressive weekend for the young diver, competing at her first international event.
