Cambridge Dive Centre appointed as a Talent Spotting Club

The abilities of the Cambridge Diving Development Centre to help youngsters fulfil their diving potential has been has been formally recognised by British Diving.

Cambridge now joins just a few elite centres in the country that are earmarked to identify children of primary school age that have the talent to go on to be top divers.

Assistant Diving Development Officer and lead coach, Sam Buck, heads the project for the Dive Centre. He has circulated 35 schools in Cambridge and surrounding areas to encourage them to join the initiative. Sam will visit schools in the new year to put youngsters through their paces, testing flexibility, core strength and gymnastic aptitude. Those children identified to have good diving potential will be invited to join the fast track club development programme. Sam pointed out "We are really pleased to be appointed as an official testing centre to provide the Talent Identification Programme on behalf of British Diving. They have been impressed with the rate of progress made by our youngsters and feel that we have the experience, expertise and facilities to provide top class talent identification. Any who child enjoys gymnastics and/or trampolining could be a potential diving champion and it is our job to encourage them into the exciting sport of diving and help them achieve their aims. We already have three schools signed up to the project and I hope that all schools contacted will respond positively to our invitation to join this initative". The Dive Centre uses the excellent facilities at Parkside Pools and their own extensive dry-land equipment at Cherry Hinton Village Centre.
