Cambridge Diving Welcomes Josh Karshen

Cambridge diving will benefit enormously from the appointment by Living Sport of Joshua Karshen as Head Coach / Diving Development Officer for the Cambridge Dive Centre.

25 year old Josh from Illinois, USA was a star diver. He trained at Purdue University, one of the leading diving centres in the USA, and was coached by the American national coaches, Wenbo Chen and Adam Soldati. Josh has impressive list of diving successes on both springboard and highboard. He took part in the American Olympic Trials in 2004, narrowly missing out on a team place. He retired from competitive diving in 2006 and concentrated on coaching. He quickly translated the experiences learnt as a diver into teaching and coaching points for a range of divers from novice to international standard. He set up a small but successful diving club using the facilities at Purdue. Josh likes to use the latest technology to study the way in which dives are performed with video analysis a routine part of his coaching methods. He is insistent that divers are fit and strong and emphasises the importance of dryland training and conditioning together with practice of diving skills on the trampoline.

Josh has a very busy time ahead of him. His appointment by Living Sport will enable him to promote the sport of diving to schools and clubs and invite newcomers to specifically arranged camps at Parkside Pools. At the Cambridge Dive Centre he will working alongside Sam Buck to restructure and expand the Learn to Dive Programme for children and adults as well as running the holiday camps. The competitive arm of the Dive Centre, the Cambridge Dive Team caters for a range of divers from novice to national elite standard. It is going from strength to strength and now recognised as one of the country's leading 5 metre centres of excellence. Josh will take a major part in driving it to even greater things.

Simon Fairhall, Chief Executive of Living Sport and Sharyn Bord, Administrator of the Dive Centre are delighted with the appointment. "This joint venture is an exciting project that will benefit both diving in the community and the many highly talented divers who are already part of the competitive scene. Josh's experience as a diver and a coach will augment the Centre's other Head Coach, Sam Buck, who as well as being a diving coach on the Junior England Programme has expertise in gymnastics and conditioning. Diving in Cambridge couldn't be in better hands."
