Cambridge Dive Team welcomes Marc Holdsworth
Cambridge diving will benefit enormously from the appointment by Living Sport of Marc Holdsworth as Head Coach/Diving Development Officer for the Cambridge Dive Team to work alongside Head Coach, Sam Buck.
24 year-old Marc is a very experienced diver who represented Great Britain at Junior European and World Class Events and Senior Internationals. Following his retirement from competitive diving he took up coaching at the City of Leeds Diving Club. He quickly translated the experiences learnt as a diver into teaching and coaching and successfully nurtured divers from novice to international standard. In addition, he headed the Talent Identification Programme which fast tracks children showing diving potential.
Marc is a qualified diving coach, qualified trampoline coach, Sports Community Leader and was awarded the Margaret Davies Trophy at the National Diving Championships held in Sheffield for the top diving coach at National Age Group and National Elite events. He is insistent that divers are fit and strong and emphasises the importance of dry-land training and conditioning together with the practice of diving skills on the trampoline.
Marc attended Leeds University and gained a BA in Education and Professional Development. The skills learnt provide him with the ability to develop good communication and relationships with children and parents, and get the best out of divers.
Marc has a very busy time ahead of him. His appointment will enable him to promote the sport of diving to schools and clubs and invite newcomers to specifically arranged lessons and camps. His first job has been to accompany Sam and the Dive Team's top divers to an international event in Barcelona. Returning to the UK he will be immediately involved in the holiday camps running throughout August at Parkside Pools. From September he will be heading the TID Programme in schools, clubs and groups to spot the next generation of talented divers in the East Region.
Marc joins the Dive Team at an exciting time. The club has an unprecedented number of national champions and medalists and is now recognised as one of the country's leading 5 metre centres of excellence. The Dive Team will undergo a restructure by Sam and Marc to accommodate the increasing numbers of competitive divers to ensure that they all reach their full potential.
Simon Fairhall, Chief Executive of Living Sport and Sharyn Bord, Administrator of the Dive Team are delighted with the appointment. Sharyn said "This joint venture is an exciting project that will benefit both diving in the community and the many highly talented divers who are already part of the competitive scene. Marc's experience as a diver and a coach will augment the club's other Head Coach, Sam Buck, who as well as being a diving coach on the Junior England Programme has expertise in gymnastics and conditioning. Diving in Cambridge has been very successful in the past few years and we expect even greater things in the future."
