Cambridgeshire County Diving Championships 2010

Parkside Pool, Cambridge

Parkside Pools played host to the 2010 Cambridgeshire County Diving Championships with competitions for all abilities from Novice through to Age Group and Open events. These championships were dominated by members of the Cambridge Dive Team winning every medal available.

Novice

The novice section of the championships was split into two sections, those that were competing in their very first competitions (Novice B) and those who had competed before (Novice A).

The Novice B event was a very close run competition with divers as young as six years old taking part. The medals were won by Eva Davies, Ben Cutmore and James Able, taking gold (253.75 points) silver (248 points) and bronze (246.1 points) respectively. The highest score in this event was achieved by Ellie Curtis (254.8 points) who competed as a guest. All of the medallists are members of the Cambridge Dive Team and showed their class, executing basic skills from the poolside, 1m and 3m springboards.

In the Novice A event Ellen Parrett took the gold with a total score of 265.25 points. In another closely fought competition, in which the lead changed hands numerous times, Rhiannon Pritchard took the silver with 256.10 points and Hannah Tse-Debenham the bronze with 240.25 points. Performing slightly more advanced skills most of these divers will progress on to the regional level and aim for the National Skills Finals in 2011.

Age Groups

Competing in their respective age-groups, the Cambridge Dive Team members once again showed their strength across the board with double gold medal winners in most of the categories. Molly Hall won the girls age-group E/D event and Owen Harrison the boys group E/D event on both the 1m and 3m boards. Rosy-May Trewin-Marshall was triumphant in the girls age group C/B event, whilst Daniel Murphy claimed victory in the boys group C/B 1m competition. Also putting in impressive performances were Pamela Chicken and Lucy Watson, taking silver and bronze in the girls group E/D events. Alice Clark (silver girls 1m and 3m group C/B), Florence Simmons (bronze girls 1m group C/B), and Poppy Hall (bronze girls 3m group C/B) showed their potential to compete at future national age group events.

Open

Performing full senior competitive lists of dives, members of the Cambridge Dive Team battled against each other to be crowned Cambridgeshire County Champion on the 1m and 3m springboards.

In the mens 1m event, Ben Sambrook stormed to victory with a total of 246.65 points with a back one and half somersaults one and half twists being the decisive medal winning dive. Daniel Goodfellow finished second with 216.9 points and Martin Christensen third with 203.35 points. The womens 1m event saw a surprise win for young Emma Watson beating sisters Lucy and Vivien Cliff to the win, finishing with a total 150.2, just two points ahead of Lucy.

Moving to the 3m springboard, Daniel and Lucy took revenge by claiming gold ahead of rival team mates Ben and Emma. Daniel performed an impressive list of dives scoring highly from all judges confirming him as the champion with a total of 264.55. Lucy's graceful lines and sound technical skill wowed the onlooking spectators and were unchallenged by her competitors as she won the title by almost eighty points, finishing with a total of 196.95.
