16th - 18th March 2018
Cambridge Dive Team were in Leeds on the 16th - 18th March competing in the G-Star inter club Championships. A team of seven divers in total were in action over the weekend in some tough events, some of which included current Olympic Champions.
The team started the weekend with the girls 12-13 years old one metre competition. Catherine Lopez put in a strong performance showcasing the new and more complex dives she has been training since the start of the year. Lopez stood in fourth place going into the last round but a costly error on her last dive dropped meant she finished in eighth place, missing out on the afternoon's final. Team mate Frankie Webb also came close to finals throughout the weekend but struggled to hit a consistent full set of dives. This along with the high standard of competition led to her finishing a couple of places outside the top six final spots.
Olivia Blower managed to break the cycle in the women's platform event putting in a new personal best performance finishing fourth. This was one of the toughest finals of the weekend with some of the competitors using it as a final practise event before flying out to the Commonwealth Games. Ultimately Olivia dropped down to finish sixth at the end of the event: a tough end to a good day.
Head Coach Aaron Paul had this to say:
"Every year we see a higher and higher standard at G-Star, so we knew this one would be tough. It would have been nice to see a few more finals but ultimately we still have some work to do with some of the younger competitors before their nationals in July. Olivia did a great job to secure a strong place within the final and we now have some key points to focus on before her nationals in a few weeks time."
From everyone at CDT: fantastic job divers!
