Former Cambridge Dive Team Head Coach, Lottie Thompson, has been recognised for her tremendous contribution to the sport during the lockdown period. Lottie left Cambridge a few years ago to continue her career in law but has remained a member of Cambridge Dive Team and the diving community.
Lottie was nominated for this prestigious award for her over and above contribution to the diving world throughout the pandemic. She has worked tirelessly at both regional and national level to ensure that diving is technically delivered, and her attention to detail with continuous supervision of implementation of ideas is second to none. Successfully representing one of the minor aquatic disciplines takes tremendous amounts of hard work and resilience to achieve the desired outcome. Lottie is currently the manager of the East Region Diving Leadership Group, planning an effective structure of diving competitions and ensuring effective development of diving within the region. In addition, she volunteers on the National Diving Leadership Group.
Lottie has been heavily involved in designing the ‘return to competition’ roadmap and in the delivery of the Diving Level X dryland and pool series. Many of our divers at Cambridge took part in this series and were elated at the opportunity to get back to competing. Lottie coordinated the first online development camp for the East Region Cat2 members which included a Q&A session with Olympian Yona Knight-Wisdom, Yoga with Leon Taylor, S&C with Jo Calvino and a mindfulness session with Jess Paton. All these activities were well received by participants and kept young divers engaged with diving and the wider context of sports practice.
During the pandemic Lottie has ensured that courses and other associated topics have been available to would be diving coaches, enabling their development into and within the sport. As manager of the East Region Diving Leadership Group, she has ensured that the diving community are kept on the front foot and informed of all developments. This guidance and motivation have proved inspirational to many during these challenging times.
