CDT Lead County Championship Medal Haul

There was some magnificent diving seen at Parkside Pools playing host to the 2025 County Diving Championships. It was a packed evening of action with divers competing in individual events across the 1m and 3m springboards and the 5m platform. The overall winner is decided by the diver accumulating the most points over the 3 boards. With a large entry pool and all titles won by members of the Cambridge Dive Team there was some fierce team rivalry to secure those vital points.

In the Girls’ Junior events (under 14 years) each board was won by a different diver. Hallie Cave set the scene on the 1m with four high scoring dives that just edged out Florence Tibbatts and Sophia Howard.

However, come the 3m event it was Sophia’s opportunity to turn the tables and with a stunning 2½ somersaults scoring 7’s she wrapped up the title with a lead of 25 points over Florence and Hallie.

The final girls’ event of the evening saw Florence at the top of the podium in the platform event with five superb dives. Karina Baxendale, in her first season at this level, showed her potential with an impressive display of difficult dives to take silver position on platform. Only 10 points separated the top three in the overall totals but it was Sophia Howard who took the trophy, just pipping Florence and Hallie.

The Junior Boy’s event was less contentious with Ryan Church a runaway winner with gold medals all on all three boards. Ryan improves with every competition and put on another master class – his performance on the 5m platform setting a new record with the judges pulling out 8s for his inward 1½ somersaults. His overall score of 521.65 for the trophy broke Rufus Bord’s record, held since 2022.

In the senior meets (over 14 years) there was fierce competition in all events. During the Women’s competitions Daisy Halls was pressed in every event by Tobi Fayomi and Yuzu Baxendale. However, she didn’t buckle under the pressure and won on all three boards, demonstrating why she is an elite springboard diver. As well as taking the overall trophy she set new records in every event.

There were equally impressive displays in the Men’s events with demonstrations of very complex and difficult dives scoring highly from many of the competitors. Finn McFarlane, another elite springboard diver showed his class on 1m and 3m setting new records on each board. A very impressive inward 2½ somersaults on 3m amassed 56 points. Challenges from Rufus Bord and Charlie Tibbatts increased the stakes and brought out the best from Finn, with all men pushing their performance that little bit more.

The platform event was the closest finish with Rufus and Charlie heading Finn for 4 rounds, but with Finn just sneaking in the win with two very good final dives that secured him the overall title for the trophy in another record score.
