County Skills Success

Parkside Pools in Cambridge was host to the County Skills Diving event which saw 18 competitors take part. The event is a great lead up to the Regional Skills competition, and allowed divers to practise their skills before the subsequent qualifying event.

Group E (8/9 year olds) saw Gabriella Aldridge take home the gold medal in the girls event with James Hughes picking-up gold in the boys event. Both divers demonstrated some lovely skills and gained good experience for their next competitions.

Group D (10/11 year olds) results saw Hallie Cave take gold, Karina Baxendale securing silver and Melodie Meeds in the bronze medal postion. This was a tightly contested leader board, with all girls executing some great entries. Emilia Wright and Phoebe Carter-Burch placed 4th and 5th respectively, adding to their competition portfolio. Raymond Hu took the gold medal in the Boys D event with Digby Bord close behind in second.

The Group C (12/13 year olds) Girls event was won by Florence Tibbatts, with Sophia Howard taking the silver medal and Kirsty Matthams on the podium in third.  Annie Powell just missed a medal position in fourth place, with all girls demonstrating solid entries into the water.

In the Group B (14/15 year old) girls event Eva Tsang won gold with Yuzu Baxendale close behind in the silver medal spot. Yuting Wang took home the bronze medal. Meanwhile Jack Halls won gold in the boys Group B meet, showing some classy air work and clean lines through the water. The final event was the Group A (16 years +) 1m and 3m events in which William Tibbatts took home the gold medal on both boards.

Moving up to platform Hallie made it a hat-trick of gold medals making her the overall junior female winner. The fight was on for the senior female title with the 5m to be the decider. Tobi scored really well but Sophia rose to the challenge with some amazing rip entries rewarded by the judges, giving her the gold medal and the overall senior female county title.

Finishing the evening the senior open event was another highlight with excellent diving and again featuring the same 3 divers for the medals. However, it was the turn of Charles to impress with his complex dives and precision entries to take gold, whilst achieving a new county platform record. Finn was close behind in silver and Rufus completed his competition with a final bronze. Despite Charles’ win here it was Finn who had the highest overall score to take the senior open county title.

The County President, Ian Liversedge, was there to enjoy the evening and present medals and trophies.
