CDT divers showcase their skills as East Region Club Championships

For the first time in over a year and a half, Cambridge Dive Team took nine excited divers to Southend to attend an in-person diving meet. This event saw clubs from within the east region go up against each other for the rights to the regional team trophy.

Kicking the weekend off was the Girls 1m springboard event. Cambridge had three divers compete, all of whom placed within the top 10! Tobi Fayomi placed 10th in the event after her first event as a Cambridge diver while Amelia Aldridge Placed 8th with team mate Zia Gordon just ahead in 7th.

 

The second event was the Boys 3m in which four Cambridge divers took part and performed some great dives again all placing in the top ten. Dominic williams placed 8th in the event while team mates Charlie Tibbatts and Ben Matthams placed 7th and 5threspectively. Rufus Bord secured the bronze medal for the club with all the boys showcasing their recent hard work. Up next was the Women’s 3m event with Daisy Halls representing the club. Known to be a competitive event, Daisy shone through and placed 9th in a tough field.

 

The Girls and Boys platform events followed where both Zia and Amelia secured themselves another set of top tens placing 7thand 9th respectively. In the boys’ event Charlie, Ben and Max Burnell placed 6th, 5th and 4th with teammate Rufus again coming through to secure his second bronze medal of the weekend. At the conclusion of day 1 Cambridge had a great set of results, showcasing the club’s commitment over the last year.

Day two of the event started with the Women’s 1m event where Daisy once again pushed herself to secure a top 10 finish in another tough event. She later competed in the platform event performing some wonderful dives and placing 9th.

 

The final event of the weekend for the girls was the 3m springboard event where Tobi managed to secure herself a 15thplace finish in the event. Team mates Zia and Amelia securing themselves yet again another set of top 10 Finishes, Zia taking 8th place whilst just ahead of her was Amelia placing 6th. Meanwhile the boys finished their meet with the 1m springboard event, Charlie placing 8th just behind his team mates Dominic in 6th, Max in 5th and Rufus in 6th.

 

The East Region Club Champs was a huge success for Cambridge who managed to place third overall in the team trophy standings. Head Coach Alice Clarke commented “it was fantastic to see the divers taking part in competition and placing so well in tough events. I’m glad to see competitions being run again – it’s a real boost for the sport and for the divers”. Well done to all divers for what was a very busy weekend of competitions!
