Covid-19 Press Report

The current Covid-19 outbreak and government lock down has caused local sporting club, Cambridge Dive Team to adapt and re-think how they deliver their sessions – both for the Learn to Dive programme and their competitive Dive Team squad members. With an emphasis on staying socially connected, physically fit and safe, the club have put together a variety of workouts for their members, catering for all levels of ability even inviting parents and carers to get involved!

Club President, Sharyn Bord, said “It’s important to stay in contact with all our members and make sure they maintain their love of diving through this period. With many children full of energy at home we hope that our workouts and activities will keep them busy, even if it’s just for the time they normally see us. It is good to know that the members are enjoying ‘their virtual diving club”.

Amongst the workout schedules are extra challenges, diving related quizzes and Q+As with the club’s coaches, helping the diving community to feel just as connected as ever. The information bulletins also invite divers to send in their ‘home workout’ pictures so that they can be shared in the next issue and across the clubs social media.

CDT’s Diving Development Officer, Alice Clarke, commented that staying fit and motivated “is especially important for our squad and competitive divers. These young athletes can usually be training 10 hours a week or more, seeing their fellow divers and enjoying the sport. Now, for our various squads we hold online work-out sessions comprising of key mobility and strength exercises, and also invite the squads support coaches to the session. It’s a great way to stay connected, have a general catch-up with the divers and share a few laughs. It is important that divers stay fit and strong to avoid injury when they return to the pool”.

The club hopes to continue the work they are doing to support their divers and is constantly looking at new ways to keep their members engaged with the club and its activities. From everyone at Cambridge Dive Team, stay safe and stay healthy.
