London Legacy Open

Cambridge Dive Team recently took a team of five divers to the second annual London legacy event in memory of former British diving coach and valued friend David Jenkins. This event is run as an elite qualifying event in which divers should achieve the score needed to enter the British Diving Junior Elites held in April 2024.

Day one of the event saw the Group C and B divers take part in their 1m event. First up for Cambridge was Charles Tibbatts, in a debut performance at this level, where he put in some great dives to place 5th overall. Next up was Rufus Bord and Finn McFarlane, also competing for the first at this level. Both boys put in some strong dives, with Rufus placing 10th and teammate Finn coming in at 5th to achieve the qualification score for next year’s Elites.

The final event with Cambridge representation on day one was the Girls Group B event, with Amelia Aldridge making her debut at this level and placing 15th overall putting in some very consistent dives.

Now into day two, the first event for Cambridge was the Girls A 3m event where Daisy Halls showcased her dive list to place 11th overall and secure herself a qualification score for Junior Elites in April.

Second up was the Boys C/B 3m event in which all three boys put in strong performances to see themselves through to the afternoon’s finals. Charles just missed out on a podium spot and placed 4th in the boys C final, his best dive being a reverse one and a half somersaults tucked. Meanwhile Rufus placed 8th in the Boys B final with team mate Finn ahead in 4th place, just missing out of a medal but achieving the qualification score for Elites.

The final day of competition saw Daisy first up in the Girls A 1m event where she again performed well to achieve the qualification score and secure a top ten finish. The last preliminary event of the day was the boys C/B platform event where Rufus and Charles took part, both securing finals spots. Charles dived well in the final beating his preliminary score to secure a 5th place finish while Rufus stepped up in his final to take home the bronze medal and a qualifying score for Junior Elites – a great way to finish the weekend!
