We are extremely proud to announce that our Club President Sharyn Bord has just been awarded a “British Empire Medal” in recognition of her 50 years of service to our sport and its development in our region.
A former competitive swimmer Sharyn became hooked on diving when the original Parkside Pool opened in Cambridge in 1963 with ‘proper’ diving boards. After several years as a successful diver Sharyn started coaching and in 1967 became a volunteer Head Coach of the diving section of the Granta Swimming club. In 1985 when the swimming clubs of Cambridge amalgamated to become the City of Cambridge SC, she continued in the position of volunteer head coach. She was instrumental in getting purpose built diving facilities included in the new Parkside pool when it opened in May 1999 along with the formation of a dedicated
diving club. Our club has gone grown and gone from strength to strength over the last 20 years under the leadership of Sharyn.
The last months were challenging for so many of us but it’s wonderful to now receive news of this award. Now that we are back at the pool we are also excited for the future of our club and the opportunities we can give to our divers going forward under the coaching guidance of Alice and Dan.
